You Don’t Have to do it All Yourself

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT ALL YOURSELF.

Read that again.

Is this familiar? You come up with an idea for a fun yoga class, or fundraiser, or workshop, and then the next day, you have talked yourself out of it?

Ugh, too much work, who would come?  Can I make money at it? Is this dumb idea? We let our scarcity thinking stop us from getting it done.

We replay the narrative of it being hard to make money in our yoga business, or that because it is yoga it is someone shameful to make a living at it (playing the martyr, are we?)  And because we think it has to be hard we can talk ourselves out of something that created a legit spark of joy when we came up with it.

You can nearly always run more profitable events by creating a higher value experience, plan it well and with plenty of time, put the right people in charge (news flash....it is not always YOU), and market it to the folks in your community who need it. We make it more complicated when we assume we have to mass market a giant event and give ourselves 2 weeks to pull it off. That’s a huge amount of work, for not much return. That is what leads us quickly down the road to feeling burned out and resentful.

It is like the square peg/round hole story. When we take on too much work for ourselves, or take on work that we aren't good at or don't enjoy, it sucks the joy right out of us. And that lack of joy finds it way into our service, and worse, how we deliver it to our clients.

You know that feeling when you are teaching a yoga class and it is just OFF? Maybe you are stressed, or were late to class, or had a hard conversation right before class began. The whole experience ends up being less that you knew you were capable of. It is OK, those happen every now and then. But when that feeling becomes constant....it is time to reevaluate how you are spending your time and energy.

Growing your yoga studio into a profitable, sustainable business doesn’t have to be a painful process, but it does require some work.

Ultimately, these three things are going to make all the difference in our studio businesses:

  • We need the right people in the right places.

  • We need the right systems in place to move our clients forward.

  • We need to consistently deliver the very best transformational service that we can.

People, processes, product. If any one of these is off, the rest becomes SO MUCH HARDER.
